Black Diamond AB
Advanced Design/Build provided truss wall framing services and insulation services for this large custom home project southwest of Calgary. Design work was by Sunergy Systems Ltd, and the principal builder was Elm Homes, Okotoks AB. The home was passive solar and had a full unobstructed view to the south on an acreage. In addition to the large residence with greenhouse, in-floor heat, Japanese-style hot tub and 3 bathrooms, there was a self-contained suite over the 3 car garage, semi-private from the main living area. Windows were triple-glazed casements with various coatings depending upon which direction they faced. The walls were 12" thick truss assemblies - 2x4 inner structural wall and 2x2 outer wall. Cellulose insulation gave the walls an insulation rating of approximately R-44: very warm, considering Southern Alberta's typically mild winters.
The home included many curved features - the roof over the greenhouse, eyebrow dormers,swept-up overhangs, and curved interior walls.
